Like many other major movie palaces, the Loew’s Grand Theatre suffered a major downturn in attendance as the entertainment world changed in the 1950s and later. People with diverse entertainment options stopped seeing the value in elaborate, expansive single-screen theatres, and lowered ticket sales led to an inability to keep pristine grandeur from devolving into dusty gaudiness.

The Loew’s Grand Theatre shut its doors in 1977. One year later, on January 30th, 1978, the theatre caught fire leading to massive destruction and eventually, demolition. The Georgia Pacific Building was erected on the site.
