Nurseries and Parlors

As movie palaces grew in size into the 1920s operators looked for new ways to attract women to come and see movies. One way they attempted to entice them, especially mothers or caretakers, was to offer a place for kids to play. An emerging feature in theatre construction were playrooms. Children were given a place to have fun under the supervision of a nurse while their mothers took in a picture. These were often decorated with murals and filled with toys or sandboxes to entertain the children.
